Surgery Authorization Specialist

As a Surgery Authorization Specialist with OrthoArizona, you will get to: 
  • Verify all necessary information and record information in patient's medical record regarding surgery and any surgical related patient needs. 
  • Obtain accurate benefit information, prior authorization and accurately calculate estimated surgical and surgical DME patient pre-payments for all practitioners (Surgeon, Assistant Surgeon, etc.). 
  • Accurately build Surgical Case Management in EMR. 
  • Communicate with patients, in a timely manner, regarding authorization and estimated patient out of pocket cost. 
  • Collect all applicable estimated patient out of pocket costs for surgery and DME prior to surgical event. 
  • Assist Surgery Scheduler with coordination of necessary equipment, surgical assists, and anesthesia relative to surgeries as needed. 
  • Ensure timely communication of authorization to all surgical facilities as appropriate. Communicate necessary information to patients, staff, and physicians in a timely manner. 
  • Answer telephone, screen calls, clear voicemail, return patient calls in a timely manner. 
  • Available to answer physician, patient, and staff questions regarding patient's upcoming surgeries. 
  • Update patient information in EMR. 
  • Assist in training and orienting of new staff. 
  • All other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications: 
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Understand/Perform training on practice management software. 
  • Continue to expand knowledge of practice management software as updates occur. 
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures. 
Minimum Qualifications: 
  • High school diploma or GED.  
  • Minimum 1-year experience of medical/surgical authorization and/or benefit eligibility. 
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • 2 years of experience surgery scheduling and authorization.
